Curvalicious Ladies Gym
When a new location upgrade to Curvalicious, a ladies-only gym, was to be
implemented, Hiba Nahawi of Nahawi Design Studio was appointed as the interior
designer and project manager to spearhead the design and implementation of the entire
project.
She came up with a design inspired by New York warehouses. The Curvalicious space
she created is reminiscent of NYC loft spaces while maintaining a bright, upscale feel.
Brass, white steel, and various raw materials such as rough concrete flooring and white
brick walls flow harmoniously with lush interior furnishings, while leather and velvet
finishes add an understated elegance and strategic pops of colour to an industrial space.
To add pizzazz to the space while creating an extra motivational feel, Nahawi Design
Studio hired a graffiti artist to create motivational women’s portraits and graphics to
adorn the walls of the gym. This created a fun and inviting fitness haven, injecting colour
and heart-pumping motivation for a young, creative clientele. To this end, the designer
even ordered special water boxing bags that glow under the UV lighting installed in the
fitness studio.
Hiba and her team took advantage of the high ceiling of the two-floor warehouse space
by creating apertures on the roof slab to bring natural light into the gym. And because
the functionality is also paramount, Curvalicious was designed to be a mobile space. With
careful space planning, the team integrated foldable partitions that allow merging two
studios into one large area to accommodate major workout events.
From an interior design perspective, the overall result is a space that is true to the
Curvalicious brand concept. In line with the angel wings in the brand logo, which are a
prominent (and notably Instagram-worthy) feature on the entrance doors of the gym,
Nahawi Design Studio have created a stylish and inspirational environment designed to
give women wings to fly.
